Comments:
Authors report only pseudo first order rate constants determined at unknown concentrations with rate constants at 296 K determined by following disappearance of cyclopentadiene by gas chromatography. Experiments were performed in the presence of saturated methanol vapor, saturated water vapor, saturated water and methanol vapor, and without any solvent vapor. The presence of the above solvent vapors was found to enhance the cycloaddition reaction rate by a factor of 1.3 to 2.9 and was attributed to stabilization of the transition state by hydrogen-bonding of the solvent and substrate.
