Comments:
The authors generated F, Cl, and OH atoms using a discharge flow technique and fed the radicals into a He/acetone mixture to study the reactions. F atoms were generated from a CF4 discharge, while Cl and OH generated by subsequent titrration reactions of F with water or Cl2. They monitored the formation of CH3C(O)CH2 by LIF in real time in each system and used these data to determine the relative rates of H abstraction from acetone. The two reactions of OH with acetone were assumed to be abstraction and addition/elimination: OH + CH3C(O)CH3 -> CH3C(O)CH2 + H2O OH + CH3C(O)CH3 -> [CH3C(O)(OH)CH3]* -> CH3 + CH3C(O)OH
