Author(s):   Miller, J.L.; Krisch, M.J.; Butler, L.J.; Shu, J.N.
Title:   Dissociation channels of the 1-buten-2-yl radical and its photolytic precursor 2-bromo-1-butene
Journal:   J. Phys. Chem. A
Volume:   109
Page(s):   4038 - 4048
Year:   2005
Reference type:   Journal article
Squib:   2005MIL/KRI4038-4048

Reaction:   CH2=C(·)CH2CH31,2-butadiene +
Reaction order:   1
Rate expression:   no rate data available
Category:  Experiment
Data type:   Data too complex to abstract
Experimental procedure:   Molecular beam
Excitation technique:   Flash photolysis (laser or conventional)
Time resolution:   In real time
Analytical technique:   Mass spectrometry
Comments:   The 1-buten-2-yl radical was produced by 193-nm photolysis of 2-bromo-1-butene under collisionless conditions. The energetic onset of each dissociation channel was determed: radicals with at least 30.7±2 kcal/mol internal energy dissociated by C-C fission to form allene and methyl radical; those with 36.7±4 kcal/mol underwent C-H fission to form H + 1-butene and H + 1,2-butadiene.
