C2H was generated via the pulsed laser photolysis of C2H2 at 193 nm and the decay of C2H monitored in the presence of the substrate of interest. C2H was monitored by adding a small amount of O2 to the system and observing the chemiluminescence produced by the C2H + O2 reaction. Low temperature experiments were carried out by using a pulsed Laval nozzle, while for room temperature studies the nozzle was bypassed.
The reaction can procede via both H abstraction and addition to the double bond, but the branching ratio is unknown.
For several substrates (isobutene, and methyl, ethyl, and propyl cyanides), the possible pressure dependence of the reaction was investigated at room temperature over the range of 0.6-8.0 Torr. No dependence was observed.
Uncertainties are 2 standard deviations.
